Explore new ideas with an Irish poet while sipping scotch. Imagine new futures with a queer scifi writer and her daughter. Find Wonder in the cartoons of an astrophysicist. That’s what a Wordfest experience feels like. Here is just a taste of the “special sauce” we bring to every show.
A welcome toast. A bagpiper. A sing-a-long.
Wordfest knows how to add just the right amount of special sauce to each of our shows. At this exuberantly lively celebration of all things Hebridean with the dazzling Coinneach MacLeod, every ticket included a copy of The Scottish Baker, a conversation paired with music by Calgary’s fabulous duo Charms: Meg & Denis Dufresne (the current CCMA Fiddler of the Year), and premium tipples courtesy of Harris Gin and Jura Scotch. Audiences received a post-show gift in their inboxes full of bonus extras inspired by the show.
Why should Vanity Fair have all the fun?
Wordfest gathered seven of Canada’s most enchanting novelists on our Imaginairium stage for a unique storytelling experience: The Way We… Hex the Patriarchy. Under full moons created by Calgary’s Erica Guan, these bewitching writers cast unforgettable spells. Brava to Mona Awad, Claudia Dey, Cherie Dimaline, Emma Donoghue, Heather O’Neill, Zalika Reid-Benta, and katherena Vermette, as well as host Pam Rocker.
